I have made a chart with the claims, prices, and basically everything comparing the two products and then below will be my opinion of the two based on how they wore on my skin. ( I have oily skin)
Mac
Macs Pro Longwear liquid foundation has an active ingredient
called Titanium Dioxide of 4.7%. This foundation claims to have a SPF of 10.
Titanium Dioxide acts as a UV absorber and has UV resistant properties.
Although this foundation has a SPF of 10, it does not mean people using this
product should be substituting their sunscreens for this foundation. An SPF of
5-14 only provides sun protection of 50-140 minutes maximum. With that said, an
average person will only put a few pumps of the foundation on their face, and
not the whole bottle (That is whenever they use the product). In order to
receive the full amount of SPF 10, a person would have to put on the full
bottle of foundation. Many people have the misconception of cosmetic products
when they say they provide SPF protection. In order to receive the full amount
labeled on the bottle, the whole product needs to be deposited on the skin.
Guerlain
Like Macs Pro Longwear liquid foundation, Guerlain’s Parure
Gold liquid foundation also has the active ingredient of Titantium Dioxide of
2.5% and also contains Octinoxate. Octinoxate is a chemical sunscreen that
absorbs UVB radiation. It does not protect against UVA and is the most widely
used UVB blocking agent in the skin care industry. The Guerlain foundation has a SPF of
15, however unlike the Mac foundation is not provided with that information on
the bottle. Parure Gold is more focused on diminishing wrinkles and smoothing
out the skin rather than providing SPF even though it is there.
My Opinion
Due to the fact that I own both of these products, I was
able to do a physical comparison of Macs Pro Longwear liquid foundation and
Guerlain’s Parure Gold liquid foundation. I placed Macs foundation on one side
of my face and Guerlain’s foundation on the other and left them on for a total
of 9 hours. I felt the Guerlain foundation blended easily on my face while I
applied it and it also had a very thin almost water like texture to it. Macs
foundation also blended easily and had a more creamy texture to it. Both of the
foundations lasted throughout the day; however the Mac foundation left my
t-zone a bit shiny towards the 6 hour mark. I liked Macs matte finish rather
than Guerlain’s more satin to matte finish. I could not testify against
Guerlain’s statement in which it diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles
because I do not have any, however I can say that it left my skin feeling soft
and smooth. The fact that I naturally have very oily skin, I tend to lean
towards powder foundations; but because Mac stated the Pro Longwear would
control oil and keep it looking fresh throughout the day I thought I would try
it out. Like I said before, around the 6 hour mark of wearing the Mac
foundation, it did leave a little bit of oiliness on my skin contrary of what
it said it would do. That could however be because I have very oily skin and
this foundation is meant for people with normal skin. Overall, I was pleased
with both foundations. I did enjoy Guerlain’s foundation a bit more just
because it did not make my skin look oily, but I was not very fond of the
finish of the actual foundation. I enjoyed wearing Macs foundation because of
the matte finish, however I did not like the fact that it left my skin a bit
oily when it said it wouldn’t. If I had to choose between the two foundations,
it would more likely be Guerlain’s because of the way it felt on my skin, and
because it gave a more full coverage. Price wise, I would more likely go
towards the Mac foundation because it is about half the price of the Guerlain
foundation.
